Writing a book is one thing. Publishing and preparing to market your new book is a whole different ball game.
I recently worked with Linda Strever, local writer and author of "Against My Dreams," a narrative book of poetry telling tales of the life of her Norwegian grandmother. We collaboratively worked hand-in-hand to design the book interior and cover and promo pieces to include in her marketing packet; sales flyer, bookmark and mini booklet.
Separate from publishing her first book, Linda simultaneously established herself as a publisher, Painted Snake Press, for this and future books already in the works. Her publishing marketing package included the basics, a logo, letterhead and envelopes, business card and a website.

What's was most notable about my work with Linda was the seamless synergy that evolved between us. I often refer to design work like "playing ball together." In this case, we played ball very well together. Linda met me at every turn having thoroughly researched the details of the next step. She consulted with experts in her field every step of the way until the very last piece fell into place just yesterday, after having received the long-awaited number from the Library of Congress. In retrospect, I have to believe that the fact that Linda and I are or have been quilters in our lives might have played a role in our working together. We both know what it means to stitch small pieces together to create the whole. Although most of the projects and clients I work with are a complete delight, it's important to pause and give gratitude when an exceptional creative team is born from the process.
