Margo Klass is an artist/bookmaker with studios in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Corea, Maine. Margo contacted me a week ago with the brilliant idea of creating a small bookmark-size calendar from slices of images of her mixed-media box constructions. I've had the good fortune of working with Margo several times over the years. Her box constructions are simply amazing in creativity, thought, and execution. If you have a minute to spare, it's well worth cruising her portfolio and reading her artist statement. HOW IT WORKED We opted to produce the individual calendar pages as a standard 2" x 6" bookmark product to minimize production costs. They were printed digitally to allow a limited run of 100. Margo and I worked like two quilters sitting side-by-side. After the preliminary template was designed I gave Margo the crop size for the images and we popped them into place for each month. WHAT MADE THIS PROJECT EFFORTLESS The key elements that made this project effortless are: • A clear vision for her project • Quality, high-res images of her work • Margo's ability to crop and size her images | |
