Margo Klass is an artist/bookmaker with studios in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Corea, Maine. Margo contacted me a week ago with the brilliant idea of creating a small bookmark-size calendar from slices of images of her mixed-media box constructions. I've had the good fortune of working with Margo several times over the years. Her box constructions are simply amazing in creativity, thought, and execution. If you have a minute to spare, it's well worth cruising her portfolio and reading her artist statement. HOW IT WORKED We opted to produce the individual calendar pages as a standard 2" x 6" bookmark product to minimize production costs. They were printed digitally to allow a limited run of 100. Margo and I worked like two quilters sitting side-by-side. After the preliminary template was designed I gave Margo the crop size for the images and we popped them into place for each month. WHAT MADE THIS PROJECT EFFORTLESS The key elements that made this project effortless are: • A clear vision for her project • Quality, high-res images of her work • Margo's ability to crop and size her images | |

October was a busy month working with folks on three different publications. I'm always impressed with the wealth of resource materials that go into each and every one.
Click to enlarge For those of you who know me well, you might know that I love creativity and functionality – and I'm equally as excited about witnessing that in others. My dear friend Asia Freeman from Homer, Alaska was visiting with her husband, Michael Walsh and son, Jack Marquardt Freeman last weekend. They're driving their newly purchased Toyota motor home from Alaska to southern California by mid-December where they'll fly to Mexico for Christmas. Now that's living! During our 3+ days shared together we lived like 'family' in my kitchen and dining room. Jake is being home schooled this quarter and took to science experiments in the kitchen inbetween watching football games and a little jogging for PE class. Click to enlarge If anyone stopped by over the weekend they might well have thought we were staging an ad for Apple with 3 laptops and a desktop all humming simultaneously. Both Asia and Michael are amazing artists and as luck would have it, they both wanted to work on building their own websites! In between cooking dinners and a little important 'shoe shopping' they built beautiful websites for themselves. Even Jake joined in and created his new Sports Now blog to keep folks current on what' happening in the sports world! I appreciate the long history Asia and I share in our friendship. I sincerely loved having a chance to get to know Michael. And of course, I've fallen in love with Jake who took to calling me, "Mommy 2". Be still my heart!
