The Future of Weebly
If you have a Weebly website, you're one of the millions who have enjoyed the ease of their simple website builder. Every website I've designed in the past 15 years has been a Weebly website for the ease offered to my clients in updating their websites.
Change is in the Wind
As with all things, change is in the wind. Weebly was acquired by Square in May 2018 and will no longer offer support for websites built with Weebly by July 2025. That's effectively three years from now and should give everyone enough time to prepare for the transition. I have a few Q&As below to help provide some tips on preparing for the change.

Q&A
What does this mean for me if I have a Weebly website?
Weebly clearly states that they will no longer offer support after July 2025. However, they are a bit vague about whether they will discontinue the Weebly site builder at that time. Since they will no longer be offering support, it feels like a good idea to plan to design/build a new website by July 2025.

Weebly and Square FAQ
Can I transfer my Weebly website to another website builder?
The simple answer is no; there is no way to transfer a Weebly website to another website builder. You will have to design/build a new website in the website builder of your choice.
What website builder do you recommend?
Since Square has acquired Weebly, they are trying to make it easy for you to build your new website using Square. However, after reading many online reviews, I've chosen to design all of my future client's websites using WIX for multiple reasons. WIX is easy to use and offers more options than Weebly. It is also robust because it provides multiple tools easily integrated into WIX websites, like a contact database, social media connections, etc. You can start building a website in WIX to try it out and see what you think.

Do Your Research
Everybody has specific functions for their websites, and it's a good idea to spend time researching which website builder offers the best tools to meet your individual needs.

How much will it cost to design a new website?
I often answer that question by relating design/building a website as being similar to design/building a house. How many bedrooms do you want (website pages), what are all the things you want to do with your home (how many functions do you want your website to perform, etc.?
If you draft a basic outline of your website and a list of what you want your website to do, you should be able to ask a web designer for a ballpark design estimate. Currently, I generally tell my clients to allow for a budget of $2,000 - $3,000 to design a website.
How can I best prepare to design a new website?
If you've spent time crafting the content of your website and curating the pics, there are two steps to take to collect your content and pics from your current website to use as resources for your new website.
1 — Copy Your Content
Although a bit time-consuming, it can be beneficial to copy/paste the content of your website into a doc to create a complete outline of all of your website content.
2 — Download Your Pics
Weebly offers instructions on how to backup your website as an archive zipped file. Many things in the file will not be helpful; however, there will be a file that contains all of the pics associated with your website that could be useful.

Will you provide an estimate to design a WIX website for me?
The short answer is possibly. I have spent the past 3-4 months learning my way around WIX and have designed several websites for clients. I am leaning towards retirement and am only taking on a 'perfect-fit' project on a client-by-client basis.
